At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard has announced Diablo 5, a new entry in its action RPG series. A brief teaser featured during the opening ceremony illustrated the reappearance of the Lord of Terror, this being one century after the events of Diablo 4.
The development team has stated that Diablo 5 will come out in the spring of 2029, which is six years after Diablo 4 and more than three decades since the series was first launched. The game’s story takes place entirely in the post-apocalyptic era, marking the first time this has happened in the series.
Further details were given out during a separate panel that took place later that day.
Diablo 5 Announcement, BlizzCon Updates, and 2029 Release
The story of Diablo 5 occurs one hundred years after the events of Diablo 4, which means it is the first game in the series to be set entirely in the post-apocalyptic era. The announcement teaser featured the return of the Lord of Terror.
At the BlizzCon 2026 event, during the Diablo 5 ‘Forging the Next Era’ panel, the development team looked more closely at the game.
BlizzCon 2026 included additional Diablo announcements:
- The Amazon is a new class pack that will be arriving in Diablo 4 in 2027.
- The Diablo 4 Collection will be available for the Nintendo Switch 2.
- The look-back covering the history of the Diablo franchise for Season 15 is now available.
Diablo 5 will be released in the spring of 2029. Blizzard has not yet specified the platforms, the classes, or the gameplay beyond the announcement teaser and the panel. Further information is due as development moves forward in the lead-up to the 2029 release.
